Do you have a soft spot in your heart for animals and the desire to support our troops? You can cover both by fostering the ones they love while our service men and women are deployed.
Welcome to Dogs on Deployment
Dogs on Deployment is a non-profit which promotes responsible pet-ownership and provides military members an online resource to search for volunteers who are willing to board their pets during deployments. DoD was launched June 2011 and has steadily been growing with the help of supporters. There are several ways you can help.
- Sign up to be a DoD Boarder and care for a service member’s pet while they are deployed. You may complete an application by clicking here.
- Donate to the cause by donating any amount.
- Help show your support by sharing their Facebook page with your friends!
- Print out a flyer and place it in your place of residence, a community center, military base center (gyms, Fleet and Family Support Centers, Chaplain’s office, etc), your place of work or take to your local veterinarian office or animal shelter. Print a flyer by clicking here and get their name out!
Dog on Deployment is owned and operated by Alisa and Shawn Johnson, who serve in the US Marine Corps and Navy respectively and own two Australian Shepherds and a parrot.
You can find more information on the program and sign up to be a boarder or find a temporary home if you are being deployed here.
